How to Use Peppermint Oil for Mice Problems

If you have mice problems, there are many different ways you can go about attempting to rid your home of them. Unfortunately, many of those methods include using poisons or traps that can hurt or kill mice. If you want something that is safe to use in your home and something that won’t hurt mice, you might want to consider using peppermint oil for mice problems. Here is how to go about using peppermint oil to rid your home of mice.

Buy the Correct Oil:

When you are using peppermint oil to eradicate mice from your home, you need to use a product that states that it is 100 percent peppermint oil. Many oil producers water down their oils. While that may not always be a bad thing, it is a bad thing in this particular situation. Mice need to be able to smell the oil in order for it to repel them away. If the oil you buy is watered down, it will not be nearly as effective as if you bought and used 100 percent peppermint oil.

Place the Oil on a Cotton Ball:

The next thing you will want to do is to place a few drops of the oil on a cotton ball. Most people recommend using anywhere from three to five drops of oil. When it comes to using the oil, more is always better. There is no harm in using too much oil, but if you don’t use enough, you may find peppermint oil does not rid mice from your home. As such, don’t be afraid to add an extra drop or two if you question whether or not you are using enough oil on your cotton balls.

Place the Cotton Balls:

The last step is to put the cotton balls in place. You should put the cotton balls near the areas where you suspect the mice are entering your home, such as doors or small holes. The mice will be able to smell the oil, causing them to turn around instead of entering your home. Additionally, you can place the balls around areas where you know mice have been within your home. This covers up the pheromone tracks other mice leave behind.

Using peppermint oil can be a great way to help you get your mice problem under control. It is safe for you, your children, your pets and the mice.
